This is a hike in a very beautiful valley called Wadi Al-Yabis (also known as Al-Rayyan). We will initiate our hike in a way surrounded by pomegranate trees. Then we find an open land with several ancient olive trees – it is said that there are trees that date to the Roman times here. Rayyan means “watered” or “plentiful” in Arabic – a word that denotes happiness and fulfillment. So that’s the perfect name for this place, for its river brought a great botanical variety to this region. In our way, we will have to cross the river several times, but in Summer it is a small stream, so nothing to worry about! We can stop to rest under some shade on the way. At the end of the circuit, there is a cave where locals are often spotted making barbecue. We will go back from the same way we reached the end of the valley.

Location: North of Jordan, between Ajloun and Irbid governorates
Duration: 5 – 6 hours (one way and back to the starting point), around 12km
Difficulty: Easy to moderate at some points
What to bring: sunscreen, water
What to wear: hat, comfortable shoes, trousers to protect your legs in the hike – the path is full of plants with thorns!
